WHAT IS A VISUAL IMPAIRMENT (VI)?
A visual impairment is determined after a functional vision evaluation is completed by both a certified teacher of the visually impaired, ophthalmologist's examination, and an orientation and mobility specialist. All the information gathered will determine how much the impairment affects the child in multiple environments (i.e. home, school, community, etc.).
Criteria Checklist
The criteria checklist for a Visual Impairment, is used and completed during the evaluation meeting. These checklists will guide the team in determining whether or not the child meets criteria for the disability or disabilities being evaluated.
