WHAT IS A SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTAL IMPAIRMENT (SDD)?
This impairment is only considered with children ages 3 to 9 years of age. A developmental history is needed, observations of the student in their natural environment (home and/or pre-school), and results from a standardized test. Communication, social and/or emotional skills, adaptive skills, gross and/or fine motor skills, and intellectual skills are evaluated. The child would have to show delays in at least two areas to be considered to have a SDD impairment.
Criteria Checklist
The criteria checklist for a Significant Developmental Delay (SDD), is used and completed during the evaluation meeting. These checklists will guide the team in determining whether or not the child meets criteria for the disability or disabilities being evaluated.
