PRE-ASSESSMENT MEETING
Once the referral has been done, the team will contact the parents/guardians and set a pre-assessment meeting. Pre-assessment meetings can happen formally or informally.
If a formal meeting occurs:
*If additional testing is needed, then the parents/guardians have the choice to sign for consent for the additional testing. If consent is provided, the parent/guardian sends back a form with their signature. Testing would start as soon as the school receives consent.
If the team decides not to have a formal pre-assessment meeting, this means that the team members have reviewed all existing data and information; and each individual team member decides whether there is a need for additional testing. Two forms are shared with parents/guardians, one listing the name of each additional assessment needed and the consent form.
The parents/guardians should receive and invitation to the each meeting with the date, location, contact information, and time. A Pre-Assessment meeting varies in length, but on average a Pre-Assessment meeting lasts about an 45 minutes.
If a formal meeting occurs:
- A summary of previous evaluations, if any.
- Information provided by parents/guardians, which might include a developmental history of the child being evaluated.
- Classroom, district, and state assessments.
- Previous interventions and their effects (RTI information included)
- Observations by the classroom teacher and/or other related service staff.
- Additional testing*.
