WHAT IS A HEARING IMPAIRMENT?
A deaf person and/or a person who is hard of hearing are considered to have a hearing impairment. There are different levels of hearing loss (mild, moderate, severe, and profound) and it is determined by a licensed audiologist. The student may struggle with the ability to listen and comprehend spoken language, produce speech, and communication skills.
Criteria Checklist
The criteria checklist for a Hearing Impairment, is used and completed during the evaluation meeting. These checklists will guide the team in determining whether or not the child meets criteria for the disability or disabilities being evaluated.
