WHAT IS AUTISM?
Autism is characterized by difficulties in communication, unusual responses to sensory stimuli, difficulty relating to people or to the environment, and developmental discrepancies. At school, a child is evaluated for educational autism, this is an educational eligibility determination and not a medical diagnosis.
If a child has a medical diagnosis of autism, that does not necessarily mean they need special education.
If a child has a medical diagnosis of autism, that does not necessarily mean they need special education.
Criteria Checklist
The criteria checklist for Educational Autism, is used and completed during the evaluation meeting. These checklists will guide the team in determining whether or not the child meets criteria for the disability or disabilities being evaluated.
